All about CoasterBuzz Games

• What is CoasterBuzz Games?
  CoasterBuzz Games is a file exchange for roller coaster computer games. The site is the gaming cousin to CoasterBuzz: Portal to The Thrill!
• What types of files does CoasterBuzz have?
  We have files for RollerCoaster Tycoon 1, 2 and 3, as well as NoLimits.
• I'm a dork. I want to know how the site was developed.
  The site was developed for ASP.NET using Visual Studio .NET.

Login, membership and registration

• How do I register?
  Visit the registration page for more information.
• Does my normal CoasterBuzz login work here?
  Yes. This site does not actually have its own registration system. You must register at www.coasterbuzz.com then login here.
• Do I need to register to download?
  Yes. Being a registered member enables special features, like the ability to track the downloads you've made and keep track of your favorite files.
• What can I do when I'm logged in?
  As a standard member of CoasterBuzz.com, you are free to download all of the files you like. In order to upload, rate or comment on files, you must be a CoasterBuzz Club member. Club members also get enjoy the site without ads, get a membership card and enjoy other benefits. Visit the CoasterBuzz Club information page to learn more.
• What does "save?" mean next to the login box?
  If you check this box prior to logging in, your login will be saved in your browser so you don't need to login on every visit. If you don't want others using your account on the same computer, you should not check this box.
• How do I log out?
  A link appears at the top right of the page that says "logout" whenever you are logged in.
• I forgot my password!
  Go to the forgot password page on CoasterBuzz.com.

Downloading

• How do I download a file?
  Once you have registered and logged in, a link at the bottom of the file description that says "download" will appear. You can find files through the navigation links at the top of every page, including Downloads, Search, and the personalized file lists.
• I clicked the link, and my browser prompts me. Now what?
  The file that you're downloading is a zip file, meaning it's a compressed file archive that must be uncompressed. If you're running Windows XP, you may simply open the file. Older versions of Windows require a program like WinZip to open the file. Once the file is open, you'll get a list of files in the zip (this is generally just one file for RollerCoaster Tycoon). See the game-specific help on where to put the file.
• How can I add the file to my favorites?
  Once you're logged in and viewing the file detail page, simply click the link that says "add to favorites."
• How do I remove a file from my favorites?
  Click Favorites then click the "remove" link next to the file you want to remove from your favorites. This doesn't delete the file, it only removes it from your list.
• I want to find more files by the same author.
  Simply click the link of the author's name in the file detail or in the file listings.
• How do I view only a certain file type?
  On the Downloads page, select a file type from the drop-down menu.

Uploading

• How do I upload a file?
  You must be a CoasterBuzz Club member to upload. First you'll need to locate the file that you want to upload on your computer. See the game-specific help. Go to the Upload page. Fill in the name or title of the file. Select a game from the drop-down menu. After a brief pause, a list of file types will appear in a second drop-down menu. Choose one, then click "proceed to step 2." In step 2, fill in a description and use the browse buttons to locate the game file and an optional screenshot. If the file type allows for extra files (like train skin files in NoLimits) and you have extra files, check the box. Click the proceed button. If you didn't extra files, you're done! If you have extra files, follow the instructions to upload up to seven more files.
• How big can my file be? The combination of your game file and screen shot must not exceed 3.5 MB. Bitmap (.bmp) screenshots are a lot larger and take longer to upload, so if you have an image editing program and know how to use it, convert the file to a JPEG (.jpg) image.
• How long before the upload times out?
  The time limit is set pretty high, so you should be able to upload even from a dial-up connection.
• I messed up the description. Can I edit it?
  Yes. Visit the file's detail page and click the edit link after the description. You can see a list of your uploads on the My Files page.
• My file is terrible. Can I delete it?
  Yes. A "delete" link will appear on the file detail page for any file that you uploaded.

Ratings and comments

• Why can't I rate or comment?
  You must be a CoasterBuzz Club member to rate and comment files. We've done this in part to help support the site, but also to limit the number of files uploaded and keep the count on "drive-by" ratings down. The result is higher quality discussion and files.
• What are the ratings standards here?
  Generally speaking, a "10" is total perfection, and should very rarely be given. An average file is a "5" and should be your starting point when rating a file.
• Can I see how users rated a file?
  Yes, click the "show ratings" link on the file detail page. A floating window will appear with the user names and ratings. Click the "HIDE" link on that window to make it disappear.
• What are the comment standards here?
  You can say really anything that you want, provided you use propert grammar and spelling and don't flame people. Constructive criticism is always appreciated.

NoLimits Help

• What is NoLimits?
  NoLimits is a roller coaster simulation program written by an independent developer. It's named as such because there's "no limit" to the kind of roller coaster you can create and then "ride" from a 3-D perspective. Visit the official site at http://www.nolimitscoaster.de/ for more information. The software is available for Windows and Mac OS X.
• Where are track files stored?
  If you've installed to the default location, the path is something like C:\Program Files\NoLimits Coasters v1.xx\tracks on Windows. We also allow you to upload car textures (.tga) which are located in the cartextures folder at the same level.
• The files don't seem to work.
  Make sure you have the latest version of NoLimits.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 and 2 Help

• What is RollerCoaster Tycoon?
  RCT 1 and 2 are the brilliant works of developer Chris Sawyer. These two games and their expansion packs have been distributed under the same publisher, though the name has changed from Hasbro to Infogrames, and most recently Atari. The official site is http://www.rollercoastertycoon.com.
• Can I "ride" RCT tracks?
  No. This feature has been added in RCT 3.
• Where are RCT 1 and 2 files stored?
  The path will vary if you changed it on installation, and will depend also on the version and expansion packs installed. As a general rule, it's probably something like C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, though you may replace "Infogrames" with "Hasbro." Under that folder, there are folders for Saved Games, Scenarios and Tracks, which contain the files you're looking for. Downloaded files should be placed in the appropriate folder.
• Are RCT 1 and RCT 2 files interchangeable?
  Not really. In many cases an RCT 1 file can be imported into RCT 2, but not vice versa.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Help

• Where are RCT 3 files stored?
  The fastest way to get to RCT 3 files is to click the "my documents" link in the file chooser, then "RCT3." The actual path will be something like C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\My Documents\RCT3, though the location may be different if you've moved My Documents to some other location (something you can do from Microsoft Word and the "Tweak UI" utility). In the RCT3 folder, you'll find a "Coasters" folder, which contains the track files ending in .trk. You'll also find a "Parks" folder, which has park files ending in .dat. This is where sandbox parks and saved, and you should put downloaded parks here as well. Saved scenario games are stored in subfolders of the "Campaigns" folder.
